hiung Yao, the celebrated Taiwanese romance novelist, has passed away at the age of 86. Her body was discovered in her residence in New Taipei City on December 4, 2024, with authorities suspecting suicide.
Born in 1938 in Chengdu, Sichuan, Chiung Yao moved to Taiwan in 1949. She began her literary career at 18 and authored over 60 novels, many of which were adapted into popular films and television series, including the acclaimed drama “My Fair Princess.”
In her farewell note, Chiung Yao expressed a desire to avoid the decline associated with aging and to pass away on her own terms.
